Step 1: Grease a baking dish, butter the bread slices heavily, cut them into triangles, and arrange half of them in the base of the dish. Scatter the raisins over the top.
Step 2: Layer the remaining bread triangles on top. In a jug, whisk the large eggs, whole milk, caster sugar, and a grating of nutmeg together.
Step 3: Pour the egg custard evenly over the bread and leave it to soak for 30 minutes. Bake at 180°C for 35 minutes until the custard is set and the top is crispy and golden.
